Junior County Week 2017 was held at Royal Winchester Golf Club on Monday 14 – Wednesday 16 August.
Kent Team – Darcie Smith (Charthills, Littlestone) Nicole Stewart Captain (Charthills) Nicole Amos (Littlestone) Megan Simmons (West Kent) Annabel Dalton (Knole Park) Maria Babadi (Kingshill)
Kelly Woolgar (Langley Park) Millie Thompson (Sittingbourne) Ella Heffer (Nizels)
This year was a rebuilding year, we lost five players from this age group last year so five new players got their first experience of a Junior County Match week. All were superb and were a credit to the county. They all had higher handicaps than most of the other teams, so experience for the future was gained. We took four more experienced players, who made everyone feel very welcome and the team bonded well, which is very promising for the future. Sadly, we had two very close matches which could have gone either way, this would have made the final result very different. A lot of positives can be taken from this year’s competition. Hopefully with work on fitness, nutrition and matchplay pressure over the coming winter, next year at Middlesex will bring us more success.
This year we say goodbye to our Junior captain, Nicole Stewart and Kelly Woolgar.
Monday am V Sussex – Result 3 – 4
A terrific win for Nicole Amos 6/5 and good wins from Darcie Smith and Annabel Dalton, both winning 1 up this gave us a good start to the campaign. Megan Simmons sadly missing out, 1 down, in her close game, which would have given us a dream start.
Monday pm V Surrey – Result 2 – 5
Up against a very impressive Surrey team, A great win from Darcie Smith 4/3. Kelly Woolgar fighting hard in her first JCW, won 2/1. Sadly, the rest of team found the Surrey team too strong.
Tuesday am V Middlesex – Result 1 – 6
This was a big shock result. We struggled against a very promising young Middlesex team, Only Megan Simmons winning on 17th green 2/1
Tuesday pm –V Hampshire Result 3 – 4
Good wins from Darcie Smith and Nicole Stewart and a wonderful effort from Millie Thompson gave us 3 good wins, so near but so far.
