Friday 21 July 2017 saw the Inter County Pearson Trophy being played at Hever Castle GC.
The weather created an interesting mornings’ semi finals, with rain disturbing play, however, play commenced with Surreys’ Coombe Hill pitched against Hertfordshire’s Hampstead, Surrey managed to get the upper hand and were called in as victors.
Middlesex’s Arkley GC were up against the Home side Kent, who were represented by Redlibbets.
The match was a humdinger with Redlibbets winning a very tight match.
Lunch was taken and with Surrey taking the honour against Kent the final started. Thankfully the poor weather passed and the sun decided to show its self.
The match score was two a piece, with tension growing, could Kent win this prestigious competition? They gave them self a good chance by winning the fifth rubber. There was a buzz amongst the spectators, Surrey had it all to do, where Kent just needed one match.
Claire Kim and Jane Faultley were honours even after 18 holes and were about to go down the 19th when news come in that Barbara Carpenter had won her match against Fionnuala Kennedy and the 2017 Pearson Trophy winner were REDLIBBEts for KENT. Wow What a day!
We all had a great day and Hever Castle were great hosts.
